Psalmopoeus cambridgei is an arboreal theraphosid endemic to Trinidad, where it inhabits humid tropical forests. In the wild, it occupies arboreal microhabitats such as tree cavities, buttress roots, and bark fissures, constructing silken tubular retreats above ground level. This species exhibits cryptic brown to olive coloration with characteristic chevron patterning on the opisthosoma, providing camouflage against tree bark.

Primarily nocturnal, P. cambridgei is an opportunistic ambush predator, preying on insects and other small arthropods encountered along trunk and canopy strata. Growth is relatively rapid compared to many theraphosids, and individuals display pronounced agility and climbing specialization, including well-developed scopulae and tarsal claws for vertical adherence. When threatened, it relies on rapid retreat or defensive posturing rather than urticating setae, which are absent in this genus.
