The Elephant bird Aepyornis maximus was a giant bird, weighing over 500kg, living on Madagascar into the 1700's where it was driven to extinction by hunting. The elephant birds eggs are the largest of any animal ever discovered reaching up to lengths of 35cm and 10kg.
