Monocentropus balfouri is a terrestrial theraphosid endemic to Socotra Island, Yemen. It inhabits arid scrublands and rocky plateaus, constructing deep, silk-lined burrows beneath stones and shrubs. This species displays striking blue coloration on the legs with a tan to bronze carapace. Uniquely, it exhibits communal tolerance in the wild, with related individuals sometimes sharing interconnected burrow systems. Primarily nocturnal, it preys on insects and other small arthropods, relying on speed and potent venom for defense.
