Tourmalated Quartz is created when quartz and tourmaline grow alongside each other with the needles of black tourmaline piercing through the quartz giving it it's distinctive appearance. The vast majority of these minerals are mined in Brazil with small amounts being mined in Chile and the USA in recent years.
