Autunite is a radioactive secondary mineral formed from the oxidation of Uranium minerals as occurs in hydrothermal vents.
Autunite can lose water when exposed to air through this process it converts to meta-autunite. All specimens will be partly converted, the process is ongoing and irreversible.
