The lightning whelk is a very large species of carnivorous marine gastropod. They commonly reach lengths of around 200mm although the current largest recorded length is over 400mm.
The Lightning whelk is rather unique in that it has a counterclockwise shell spiral, clockwise spirals in this species are very seldomly encountered.
